I lost four in total. A personal record!! A result of various recces, L50 and Bullock Smithy!!!

How often do you cut your toe nails?

@IainR. Pretty often tbh!! I can see your thinking though! In fact I cut them back before both the L50 and the Bullock Smithy

I am one of those folk with a long 'index toe' if you will, so get problems with those more than the big toe itself. I use 'Zeekol', which is a small tin of 'healing soothing antiseptic ointment' bought from Fothergills in Hebden Bridge (other 40's retro shops are available). Affectionately known as the 'green shit' I find that it really does sooth and seems to help regrowth....
