    Re: Jura 2011...

Those runners who are already on Jura are reccying the low level course -those that can hold on to the ground without being blown away that is. As I sit here in the café at Craighouse looking out at the spray blowing across Small Isles Bay, the ferries have been cancelled today. None of the tourists can leave - and the whisky festival is this Wednesday and Thursday. Poor souls. The ferries will start again on Tuesday, of course, and the weather will be fine on Saturday. The hills are wet at the minute, but in this wind they dry out very quickly.

anyone who is driving up from Manchester or the north-west Friday: if you have a space in the car I'd greatly appreciate - and pay well for - a lift.

Just found out my current arrangements have fallen through.

    Thanks.

Sorry can't help but look at Flights to Glasgow Airport. It'll be easy to get picked upo from there......Volcanoes and Ash clouds permitting..

Just wondering if anyone who's done this race has any advice on the best footwear? I know there's a lot of scree/rocks, so maybe something like a roclite would be fine, but I've also heard its very boggy/tussocky in places so a mudclaw may be better, not too mention the road at the end, and the ceilidh on Saturday night! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I think forget the road at the end, that's horrible in anything. I'd go with a mudclaw over a roclite for definite. Lots of scree but also lots of tussock, heather and bog. Some of the early descents will be lethal in roclites.

Go off quite hard, the first 3 hills are quick then the race proper starts but be in the mix at the base of the first pap. From there to the road its a hill walk..

I have worn walshes twice now and had no issues..

Hoping my flights are cancelled and I can still make it up...

Toss up for me between mudclaws and talons. Opted for talons which will be less good on the many boggy bits but godd on the rock and there's lots of that. A bit lighter too and I need every advantage I can get this year.

Fifty-fifty for the lower level route (the bad weather alternative) at the moment. The wind is changing direction all the time, clag is up, clag is down, completely unpredictable, but the wind is the main consideration. Could well be gale-force on the tops, so expect the worse rather than the better. Willie has ordered 50 whisky glasses, so he must know that the weather is going to be calm and sunny on Saturday.
