Thread: Langdale Horseshoe.

    Langdale Horseshoe.

I was thinking about entering the Langdale Horseshoe as part of my training for the OMM in late October. Although I'm not a member of a Club or the FRA can I still enter??

I've never entered a fell race before but I've done lots of similar type events and Orienteering events whilst in the Army.

You don't need to be a member of a club or the FRA - the key is to have experience.
I don't know what you class as a "similar type" of event - but the Langdale Horseshoe is pretty serious, especially in poor weather. The terrain is particularly rough, even for a Lake District fell race, and even involves down climbing the bad step off the Crinkle Crags. The main things you need are experience of running in the big hills in the Lake District and some mountain sense.
I'd contact the organiser and tell him what other events you have completed recently.

I thought this had been moved to the 6th to avoid the clash?

    Re: Langdale Horseshoe Race

    It'll be a tiring month.

I think we have trashed this thread already, sorry.

Does anyone have any decent route information or tips for this race.

If I remember correctly there is a good bit of route choice on crinkle crags, over the top or round the back.
