I got told by a great britian 24hour runner that mashed potato with cheese or honey melted into it and plenty of butter put into a little bag the bite the corner off and squeeze it in as you want it like a cake pipe worked for him, I agree with shot blocs being easy to go down too when sweets wont

I used to mix bags of dates, apricots and jelly babies. I found they gave energy but a dodgy stomach...live and learn

I didn't give it to you then? You'd probably had half a dozen while you were waiting for me!

I switched from a variety of solid stuff (sandwiches, roasted potatoes, none of which I could eat after Dunmail) on failed #1 to just having loads of semi fluid rice pud and pasta in sauce on successful #2, so the idea of well mashed spud in bags sounds good to me. Gels to hand for an emergency boost I never really needed.

Ive used a few times Ian and worked well. Make sure you grate the cheese Finely and add it when it's warm and it infuses to make a more cheesy mash and use small bags so you end up with a type of savoury gel replacement. Havnt tried the small boiled spuds that sounds good

I supported a winter round attempt where the contender used old-fashioned icing bags (like your grandma used) full of rice pudding. Squeeze bag, squirt rice pudding into gob = quick pit stop. Couldn't hack it myself, but I thought it worth passing on!

That's really interesting Mike, thanks for that. So it wasn't just in my imagination after all!
