Stolly, I take it you are intending on going anti-clockwise on your attempt. What is the perceived wisdom about start times for an anti-clockwise round?

Our 'perceived wisdom' is to start at 8am and benefit from a normal clock. Its easier at the start too but leg 4 (clockwise leg 2) is overnight and if the weather's bad at the same time its as well to go into it nicely ahead of schedule. Easier said than done. Our leg 5 recce yesterday was absolutely brilliant with 3 incredible descents - blencathra down to the river was a real humdinger! I suspect it won't be quite so much fun on the day

I've done AC three times. Its nice to start at a decent time, but that final section is a real killer at the end. Can't say I've ever been in good enough condition to enjoy those 'humdinger descents'. My legs have always been too shot. The drag up calva and skiddaw is tough. Thats by far the worst aspect of going AC. Clockwise is definitely easier in my book.

Not really given AC much thought, mainly because my first thought is being on Clough Head, looking over and seeing Halls Fell, and knowing Skiddaws beyond that!! But I'm definitely no authority!! Stollys much more clued up than I on the yays and nays tbf!!

Anti clockwise is no more mad/just as mad as clockwise

Andy, what an excellent effort in challenging conditions. I was really pleased to be supporting and as well as enjoying seeing you complete your Round it's fired me up for mine in a few weeks time! Recalling your determination will encourage me I've no doubt, cheers - Chris
