As a youngster did the threat

.......of a nuclear war excite you?

    It did me.

The idea of no school and wandering the moors fired my imagination.

Please share with me and the forum your terrifying cold war memories (unless of course you were a snivelling cnd supporter who would have happily given his sister and mother to the invading russian hordes).

Slow day at the office Danbert??

Wasn't there a movie in the 80's based in the US about a bunch of teenagers living in the hills fighting the commi b'stards after they had won the cold war??

As someone who actually had to do all the nuclear war stuff in practise, I can tell you it was a right pain in the arse. The word was Taceval for those in the know

It used to scare me! I thought most of the world was going to be destroyed in WW3 as the US and USSR exchanged missiles.

As I'm older now it's interesting to look back on it... was the cold war actually in the interests of both the US and the USSR?... to keep military spending high? To deflect attention from problems at home?

Now what does the US war machine do now?.... I know! Let's fight Islamic extremists....

    Nuts. I'm scared again.

Yep , we watched the war film that was banned at school, the one about nuclear holocaust. Scary stuff. Today seems less safe somehow, at least the cold war fighting wasn't done in our backyard. Makes you wonder if our glorious leaders ever read the history books, 'Lions led by Donkeys' comes to mind.

The fictional account of the Third World War by Sir John Hackett gave an interesting description of what might have happened if the Cold War became hot.

To have built your own bunker you must have seen the film 'Threads' as a nipper Daz.

I don't know if Threads was just on Manchester schools curriculum but when they showed it to us, there must have been 200 pale and wretched looking children, visibly trembling and crying.
