    6 County Tops

This fresh off the press on the Dark Peak Website

Dark Peaks Roger Baumeister(the only person to complete a back to back double BG in 48 hours) has completed the 6 County Tops Challenge

Roger has just called to tell me that he has completed the 6 Old County Tops in a time of 39 hours 58 minutes. Apart from very blistered feet he seems to be well, and in very good spirits.

The tops lie in the counties of South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, Staffordshire and Cheshire; the total distance, starting and ending at Dukes Drive fell gate was about 95 miles, the amount of height gain unknown but clearly it will be considerable.

    Well done Roger.
Indeed a very well done and it goes to show that no matter what the age talent will always show through....

Wow! I knew he was having a run at the 6 tops, but assumed it was going to be linear, not a round! Well done Roger...

An excellent achievement, but it leaves me a tad confused - "The 6 Old County Tops"? South Yorkshire & Greater Manchester are surely new fangled post '74 counties?
I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!

If you wish to argue the toss with Roger about the validity of county boundaries, I'd sure he would give you a run for your money. I'm sure he can well remember pre-74 counties, being as he was around at the time. Ian fails to point out that Roger is in his seventies. Which makes this endeavour all the more special.

After doing the 4 County Tops on Easter Monday (that's without Cheshire & Staffs), I'd put this one on the 'to do list', but as an end to end, not as a circuit. Blimey!

I hear you Geoff, I did the 4 County Tops two years ago, and bailed on a solo 6 County Tops last year, (after 4 tops and 40 miles). I am full of admiration for a 6 County Circular completion!
