Thread: Water on leg 3?Langdale Comb?

    Water on leg 3?Langdale Comb?

Does anyone know if Langdale Comb stream (Stake Gill) is flowing reliably where the BG crosses it? There's not much water on the route, but this is one point where there is? But it's been pretty hot and dry though lately ...

Langdale Combe is pretty reliable but I don't know its exact current status.

The little beck towards the bottom of the Bowfell ramp has always been reliable too in the hottest of summers. It's on the right just before you start heading half left towards the main ramp. It's a really timely water source and I always use it whenever I'm passing.

In addition to the sources quoted previously (which, I agree, are fine all-year round) a spare runner could be dispatched to Calf Cove beck on the way up Great End. Take the water as high as possible at the base of the rock slope). The only problem with this is being sure to meet up with them on the way to Ill Crag (you may end up, like I had to once, shouting to each other in fog). The best place to re-group is at the start of the rock-hopping en route to Ill Crag (2246 0791).

Update on water as of yesterday:
Beck between Harrison and Pike O'Stickle is low but still flowing. IMO good for a couple of weeks yet if drought continues.
    Stake Gill as above.
Bowfell ascent: Had to push bottle into mossy edge but filled bottle quickly. Have never seen it so low.

I will be doing the entire BG over two days May 9th/10th and I just wondering how much water I can pickup on route/need to carry.
Leg 1 I will be OK as I know I have a river have way around.
leg 2 I cannot think of anything on Leg 2 before Grisedale Tarn is that correct or is there access before that?
Leg 3 There must be something before High Raise/Sargent man. Is there?
Leg 4 That must be very dry, is there water available somewhere?
Leg 5 Likewise I cannot think of anything near Honister.

Leg 2 there is a spring at the top of Sticks Pass - about 200m away on the Patterdale side. I've used it a few times.
