    New safety rules

I appreciate that if we have any concerns then as it is in its 'Draft' format we can feed this back, however I thought it would be interesting to see what people think.

    My initial thoughts are -
    1) I may need to update my waterproof (Montane Freeflo H2o) as I doubt its considered breathable.
    2) I may need to invest in a more packable pair of trousers.
    3) No more bare-chested runners.

I don't want to appear sexist, but I believe there are some male runners who prefer to run topless.

    Re: New safety rules

I imagine lots of people will complain about overkill and inflexibility.. Having to start at #1, and not allowing pre-allocated numbers, certainly seems a bit OTT. I guess the other line of thought would be to require that ROs/certain posts have a Race Official qualification? (I have seen finish-line volunteers jigging their numbers in such a way that mistakes could be made).

Or if the course is well marked throughout like many continental races, should the kit requirements be less?

In my mind the most crucial bit is this:
Organisers of courses which traverse high mountain or moorland terrain should plan an alternative
route for use in bad weather.
    5 ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS
Should weather conditions on the hills be of such severity as to endanger competitors, or prevent
marshals carrying out proper race monitoring, the race MUST either:
    • be abandoned or
    • the bad weather alternative route used.
And which is already standard practise almost everwhere abroad (including Wales), but which to many is somehow seen as contrary to the ethos of fellrunning.

I'm sure someone mentioned the other day about Billy Bland running Wasdale with his number pinned to his (bare?) chest.. unless it was Kenny Stuart at Snowdon. Can't find it either way.

It still is a very simple sport with a few simple rules. Simple.

If you have comments on these proposals, where are they addressed to? Any pointers / links available?
