Grin'n Bear it 13 new course

First of all please note due to land access problems we've had to change the date of this years Grin 'n bear it. It will now be on 2nd of November and incorporates a new route for the race over tougher terrain with no tarmac or road.
    .

All profits from this event go to Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team

The Grin ‘n Bear It is our annual challenge walk/run to help raise funds for the team. This is the 7th year and it just keeps getting better.

What do I have to do?
Just walk or run if your prefer in some of the most rugged and scenic parts of the Peak District National Park
How far do I need to go?
There are three routes this year, the longest is 25 Km the shortest is 8 Km, so you can pick the one that best suits your ability. This includes a new race route.
    What skills/equipment will I need?
Route finding skills using route description, map and compass in poor weather conditions are essential for the longer routes. Appropriate clothing & footwear are required. O/S Outdoor Leisure Map No.1 Dark Peak Area 1:25 000
    Are dogs allowed?
No sorry, dogs are not allowed due to restrictions from landowners.

    Race Route
    •Distance: 25Km
    •Registration: 9:00am, Langsett Barn
•Start: 10:00am, Langsett Barn car park

more details here including the route

Thanks IDP - The route looks like a big improvement to me. Far more opportunities to play with the bog monster without fear of the dreaded tarmac later on.
    the stickier.... the better....

that depends on the weather and on how big your feet to spread the load over the bogs, but yes I think so....
Height gain would be about 1400ft. I'll check for you but can't see why not although it might be worth going for a slightly later start to make sure CP F and later are up and running before you get there. You wouldn't get a result though just a finish.

Would be good to see you there Steve

The later start-----------------------That would fit in even better, we could stay at home then journey down instead of night before and staying in motorhome, then going to pub getting--------------Hang on a mo?? 1400 nowt
    Going to try again....

hmmm... I was keen for this on 5th October, doubt I will be able to make new date

then I thought, "ah well, I can do Hope Moors & Tors instead"... only to find on the D&W website that they're having to change the date of that as well!

Ian - will it be reverting to the original route(s) next year, do you know?
