    Socks

So I'm new to all of this and there's so much talk about most equipment but not socks. I'm used to running with 2 pairs of thin trainer socks on, should it be any different for fell running? What are people's preferences, no socks? thicker socks? technical socks?

Sounds fine to me, I did my BG with a pair of thin liners socks under a thicker more milles running socks and not a blister. I would advoid too thick socks as when wet they weigh more. In the winter I will wear sealsinz socks if it is snow on the ground or very wet.

A fair bit of personal preference here, but I tend to go for mid-weight, wool mix socks such as running bear or pete bland.
Wool content helps them stay warm-ish and comfortable when wet. Nylon helps them dry and keep their shape.
Never personally been convinced by the need to spend a fortune on them
The only workout you'll ever regret is the one you didn't do.

Another vote for Running Bear, but then they are my 'local'
Nice wool, fine for training, use them on races too
I just buy a few new pairs every couple of years - I hvve a bony heel and wear shoes and socks there
For long(>10m for me) or potentially long+/-wet events I add a thin lining layer
For this either a pair of hiking liner socks(Bridgedale Coolmax)

Or currently, some M+S posh 'formal' mens black 100% wool socks that have worn quite thin for everyday use but work well as a liner pair

Don't take my word for it though, as I always wear some Inov8 debris Gaiters, and love them, and I seem to be on a limb here...

I just wear pete bland socks, the black ones, not sure if they have a name or hilly off road socks. But I think it's a case of whatever works for you. As always though perfect your combinations in training and not at a race.

Drymax transformed my idea of how comfortable my feet could be when running in wet / snowy conditions. Not cheap but they work amazingly well.

Another vote for the black Pete Bland off road socks here.
