    Farage vs Clegg

    Anybody watch this?

The general consensus seemed to be that Farage edged it. Personally I'm not a particular fan of either and would probably sit somewhere inbetween their views i.e. I'd like Britain to stay in Europe if a looser relationship could be negotiated.

Watching this, I thought that Clegg was the more accomplished performer but Farage to his credit was more likely to address a direct question while Clegg evaded. Quite entertaining viewing at any rate.

I didn't watched it. I like Farage because he is prepared to take people on and challenge them. He is the sort of person that if elected to Parliament would be entertaining as an MP but I would be concerned if he ever held higher office.
    Clegg is a waffler.
If Farage only edged it he must have been on an off-night

Clegg started quite slowly and was very evasive, appearing to deny that there is complete free movement of people within the EU. But he landed a couple of punches too e.g. over Fararge's European voting record and over a UKIP election leaflet. Plus he kept his composure while Farage got a bit sweaty towards the end. Overall though, Farage was more likely to meet a direct question head on.

It was on Sky News. There is another debate next week on BBC2.

Not watched it yet, but I'm no fan of UKIP and consider myself rather pro-European, but then again I despise Clegg, an incredibly vain political lightweight.

Could an impressive showing by Farage, see the beginning of the end for the Tories ..and the Lib Dems ..and be the lead in to a comfortable Labour majority in 2015? I hope so.

Despite what some might think I haven't been impressed by any political party for some time. They are all playing it safe, worried about what the press might say, focus groups and opinion polls.

But Danbert, you are about the same age as me. Every Labour Government run in office that I have experienced
has left the country economically as a basket case.
    In 1979 and in 2010.
The only Tory Government run in office I have seen from 1979 - 1997 saw us propelled from the sick man of Europe to the 4th largest economy ion the world.

In order to do many of the "good deeds" that many would like, we need to have a successful economy.

Conclusion - I cannot understand why anyone would want a Labour Government. Even socialists don't. They are just anti-Tories with no real idea of what to do than oppose.

Very bad organisation at my voting station today. The European ballot sheet was far bigger than the local government one and the slot to put it in was much smaller than the local government one. When I mentioned this to the polling staff they agreed with me I suggested they tip the box up on one end to clear some space under the slot but they weren't having it

I think that UKIP will actually start appealing more to traditional working class Labour voters with their stance on immigration and Europe.

If Scotland votes for independence, you may not see another Labour Government in your lifetime.

I think the two main parties will always have about 40% of the votes each. Even if you bombed all the labour safe seats, the Conservatives would lurch right, Labour would move to the middle and you'd be in the same position. I think it's as much about human nature and the need to have a change than it is about ideologies.
