    Angry Wind

I get really annoyed with the wind and fixate on how much i loathe it. I just can't do with the way it has you changing gear all the time and blows crap into your eyes, the wind has recently ruined two otherwise nice bike rides for me. I don't like the way it inflates clothing you've left unzipped for cooling and slows you to a flipping crawl. I get pissed off with the way it howls on your lugholes and leaves you deaf to your own thoughts, it's like being yelled at for an hour or two. I've been known to tell the wind to eff off at the top of my voice. What do we reckon???

Oh yeah, the other week the wind unzipped my cag and started beating me about the face with it. It wouldn't have been a total disaster if it weren't for the fact there was a bicycle pump in the side pocket.

The wind might well be responsibe for my untimely death on my bike; and not knowing the wind was to blame people will thing i'm a sh!t rider and i will be unable to set the record straight.

Last Thursday I walked north up the coast from Embleton to Bamburgh, most of the way into a strong wind. On the final stretch the sand was being whipped about, making fantastic shapes/patterns along the beach. We could feel and hear the sand hitting our clothing; if you timed your conversation badly you could taste the sand. The only sense it failed to reach was smell. So, though the wind made walking difficult (and I definitely wouldn't have fancied cycling or running in the direction we were going) it certainly made things interesting, so I can't bring myself to loathe it.
Loathing I will reserve for things/people that have no positives...

I quite like wind generally but am not keen on the gusty type. I've had at least two lake district runs ruined this year by gusting. On one occasion I was gusted off of my feet and bounced twenty metres down some rocks while having snow driven at me, which was particularly unpleasant, and also caused me to cry like a baby in front of my male running companions thus ruining any credibility I thought I had (but probably didn't).

The second occasion saw me cling to Causey Pike whist the wind tried to peel my fingers from the rocks and throw me off of the crag. Movement was not helped by my collie friend deciding to shelter beneath my crouched form so that I couldn't move and my human friend stifling laughter and taking photos!

    “Blow, blow, thou winter wind”

    Blow, blow, thou winter wind,
    Thou art not so unkind
    As man’s ingratitude;
Thy tooth is not so keen,
    Because thou art not seen,
    Although thy breath be rude.
Heigh-ho! sing, heigh-ho! unto the green holly:
Most friendship is feigning, most loving mere folly:
    Then, heigh-ho, the holly!
    This life is most jolly.

    Freeze, freeze, thou bitter sky,
That dost not bite so nigh
    As benefits forgot:
    Though thou the waters warp,
Thy sting is not so sharp
    As friend remembered not.
Heigh-ho! sing, heigh-ho! unto the green holly...

Running into the wind is GREEEEAT due to the extra 'free' training effect it bestows and of course by adding that extra dimension of raw natural challenge it also sorts the 'sturdy wheat from the whimpy chaff' - huh!

Good poem I thought I was pretty sturdy but apparently a love of cakes does not make one gustproof Just packed and moved all of my poetry books to my new house...they were pretty heavy and thus probably windproof. They were definitely a good training weight!

Having gone up a hill behind you, I agree.
Don't roll with a pig in poo. You get covered in poo and the pig likes it.
