    Borrowdale Short(er) Race?

It occurs to me (because I'm in this category) that there must be a lot of people who would like to partake in the Borrowdale weekend but don't feel fit enough to tackle the full race.

Wouldn't it be good to have a shorter race as well, like they do at Duddon?

How about this: CP1 Robinson, CP2 Dale Head, CP3 High Spy. Good running, some route choice, pretty tough but not TOO long.

    Other route suggestions welcome!

Don't they do this for the Pedol Peris as well, they do at the 1000m peaks, it's a good idea.

No there's lots of shorter races through the year you can enter.

Times to make the cut off times on the Borrowdale (thanks daleside)

    BB - 50
    EH - 1:48
    SP - 2:22
    SH - 2:57
    GG - 3:32
HP - 4:19 (thats 11 minutes to spare)
    DH - 4:53
    Finish - 5:37

I'm sure you'll get to Honister in 4:30 Trundler, give it a go

How about Sty head Pass, Great Gable, Honister Pass, Dale Head?

Or Bessy Boot, Esk Hause, High Raise?

This was my first thought as well. Makes use of the marshalls out for the full race. But ... not sure I'd want to run either of the tracks to Sty Head.

Rosthwaite - Honister - Dale Head - Rosthwaite? Probably a bit short... so three-quarter (or thereabouts) race could do Esk Hause direct to Gable but otherwise follow route of the main event.

I thought that too. My main concern was that you'd end up with slower runners clashing with the faster runners

They normally do for the Peris but I turned up last year to find Blakey had cancelled the short one cos the long was a British Champs (too much organisation etc) So I had no option - it was a very hot cloudless day and I got as far as the top of Snowdon before retiring - the only race I've ever packed up in!

Welsh 1000m peaks had a short this year from Ogwen which was pretty tough in itself. I think you've got to be below 13 stone to do any of these tough longs which definitely counts me out.

One big difference is that the Welsh 1000m only has about 80 runners in the long race, and I believe Peris is similar when not a champs race. Borrowdale already attracts nearly 400 even in non champs years - would the organisers want even more coming for a shorter race?

I think that's a good point. It's probably the reason why they don't have a shorter race!
