    Half Tour of Bradwell

I was contemplating entering the Half Tour of Bradwell and just checked online for entry info......I'm shocked at the cost!

Not only is the race £11.50, plus £2 dibber hire there is now a £4 surcharge for late entries after 01/07/14. Surely being over a month away isn't classed as a late entry?? Even entry on the day at most events is only a quid more. I get the need to organise dibbers well in advance but that brings the total for entry now to £17.50. I really want to support local races, and I know a few of the guys that are involved with the Bradda Dads who'll benefit, but at that price I think I'll just go and run the route on my own.

But it's all for charity you tightwad. If you want to moan about the cost of races you should try Skyrunning or road races. If you really want to weep just check out the cost of Ironman events.

In the attached ZIP file is a GPX file of my run of last year's Half Tour. There might be the odd bit of route deviation but nothing major.

The map states that the dibber at checkpoint number 5, Lose Hill, is "On the Trig Point". If its claggy there may be a few wandering around looking for a Trig Point that isn't there!
Visibility good except in Hill Fog

Yes, but where's the extra hill? I thought it was just the standard half tour (in reverse).

    Hi Nick
the extra hill is right at the start - up through fields to the lane that runs round to the mast and then down to Shatton
the normal (clockwise finishing section) route from Shatton to Bradwell is much shorter/lower
(remember this is the Half Tour not the Long Tour)
I don't think it's full btw, so if you sweet-talk the organiser you might be able to bag a last-minute entry...

But we still have to climb that hill from Shatton in the normal direction. I remember the long slow trudge up the lane when I did the Winter Half in 2020. Breathing out the proverbial, so I was.

I'll see you tomorrow, hopefully. It's been a while.
