The days when people would flock to see the films of Antonioni, Truffaut, Bergman, Godard et al are long gone and London (where l lived for 8 years) has seen the collapse of cinemas catering for that now long-gone market.
Sight & Sound has just printed UK box office takings for 2016 for "Arthouse" films. Only one film in a foreign language took more than £0.5million and that was Pedro Almodovar's Julieta which took £1.3million. An excellent and thought provoking film that persuaded, say, 100,000 people to see it?

    The Revenant took £23million.

Have I ever told you that you have a refined and sophisticated taste in the finer things in life?

If you have not seen it, Marvellous is on television on Wednesday 1st July.

    A fantastic film.

Toby Jones stars in the life story of Newcastle-under-Lyme resident Neil Baldwin.

Football related but an interest in football is not required to enjoy!
Visibility good except in Hill Fog

Strangely we watched Julieta this weekend. Very fine, though I have always had a soft spot for Almodovar's films. Much better that most Hollywood trash. Luckily my friend John had seen it so we discussed it whilst running the Ilkley Skyline on Sunday.
