    Wot a pong!

Scenario : Running tonight so I brought my kit into the office so I could get changed before I left and to relace my shoes because one of them had broken last time out. I dumped my kit under my desk and went and made a coffee. Two minutes later I returned only to find two collegues messing with the aircon and discussing what the smell was. I had to admit it was my slightly minging Walshes and was made to return them to my car.

Question : It was suggested that a liberal splashing of Brut might bring my Walshes back under control, but I'm worried about attracting unwanted attention from the local sheep. What should I do?

Part of the charm of a worn in pair of running shoes is their 'nose', which only the owner can live with, and probably doesn't even notice. Depends if you want your Walshes to smell of ming *and* Brut. Kit smells. My Montrails apparently smell of cat pee, but I can't see it , so to speak. I use plastic bags to keep the stench reined in, rather than trying to mask it with more odours. Besides I would feel funny about tainting the aroma that has been up built through honest toil on the hills.

Try having more than one pair of fell shoes and alternate their use.

I could never get mine dried and de-minged before i needed to use them again so ended up transporting them whilst they still stank. As a result my car has a constant, ingrained smell of fellshoe ming, which has also caused work related embarassment in the past, not to mention non-fellrunning social shame...

I am seriously contemplating buying an old, cheap escort size van purely for the purposes of fellrunning and preserving my formerly quite smart car for work and other forms of play. I bet you could pick one up for hardly anything, and just insure it third party.... I could plaster it with Kimm/Omm stickers and everything!

PS - I see you're from Mold Jimbob - you doing the Ponderosa?

I certainly am, you'll be able to spot me from the smell

Some good advice there Swiss Toni, thanks. It seems Walshes hold the smell worse than Mudclaws, and I already have 3(ish) pairs, if the missus found I had bought any more she'd have a fit particularly as I've claimed I can't afford to redo the kitchen.

Maybe it should be called the "Pongerodour"?
