    3 months to peak

I know there's a few know it all types on here.

Someone on another forum reckoned you could achieve peak fitness within about 3 months.

This is assuming a few things.

    1) no injuries
    2) time is available
    3) a running start, as in you already have some fitness and not too much weight to lose

Whaddayareckon? If it's possible it sounds like o bloody hard 3 months.

Fitness for what though? I'm fairly sure you couldn't be fit to do your best hilly 100 mile ultra, in 3 months. But maybe your best beep test could be possible. I think you would have to embrace interval training and make pain your friend though.

I reckon in the context it was discussed transferred to here.

Your probably looking at a 10m race with say 3500ft of ups.

I'm no expert, but I think that's all about power to weight ratio (like most/all running i suppose). I Would be surprised if you could maximise that ratio in that timeframe. Maybe you could produce your maximum VO2 max though?

    I think I missed a caveat.

This is 'more or less' peak fitness.

i don't think we are talking Mo Farah earning a gold medal peak fitness.

Pfft, most of the tail Enders at fell races manage their V02 max on a regular basis.

    Certainly sounds like it anyway.

That's just their VO2 max (or close to it) at their level of fitness. You can definitely train to improve it.

I think that the original statement - "you can achieve peak fitness in 3 months" may have been taken out of context.
3 months to peak is part of the classic periodised training pattern.
a pattern that you would expect to cycle through each year.
    Base
    Build
    Peak
    Race

Base - You spend 3 or 4 months working on your base aerobic capacity through the winter (volume training)
Build - You spend a 2 to 3 months prioritising quality - more intervals and tempo training, volume drops to a degree
Peak - a few weeks of real sharpening work, volume drops some more
Race - you fly for a couple of months

I'd think the "peak in 3 months " probably covers the Build and Peak phases of the cycle.

So I'd would say yes you can peak in 3 months, but its part of a wider picture, a training cycle round the year and that should be repeated year on year.

I've heard some say 'you're only 6 weeks from a PB'
    There's your Peak phase.
