I think that if you knew the circumstances of the runner in the photo - Mark Birbeck AKA fellephant - then you might understand why he runs with the stick.

I don't know fellyphant except from here, and his films, assuming thats him! Great effort though, and great photo(s).

No your correct, I don't know the circumstances of the chap in the picture.

As I said I was scrolling the pics, and when a fell runner appeared with a crutch in his hand , my first reaction was a smile.
If I'm the only one to smile on seeing this pic, then my apologies for any offence caused.

Please could a moderator remove the thread if they feel the need.

I smiled even more because I had a sore calf and a crippled felly with a walking stick beat me.

I don't think I would fancy the Coniston Gullies course when fully fit, let alone with a crutch

Mark is a top bloke, loves the sport, really cracked me up when I saw the pictures, ha ha!!

He even went to the Walsh factory in Bolton to see if they can made any additions to his crutch...I'd say keep an eye out for more from him ;-)

What's wrong with being last mapper?
I have had a bad calf and have finished last about half a dozen times this year and I consider it an honour to compete not a stigma over a position.
He is a star �� but so is everyone who takes a number and finishes ��

There's a difference between smiling and making up captions which could cause offence.
It was the 'caption competition' bit that I saw as wrong.
A better title would have been 'Respect this Fella'.
