Seriously, what XC spikes would folk recommend? I am an over pronator and want a decent pair without spending a fortune. Are Brooks Mach 9 pretty good?
Biriani for endurance, pathia for speed.

    Re: Cross Country Spikes

Last year I bought a pair of Saucony Kilkenny. Really comfy, but first race and one of them came off in the mud, I haven't worn them since.

I then bought a pair of Nike Waffle, which I used for the rest of the season. A few people have said that they fall apart quickly, but I've had no problems - although I generally seem to get a fair bit of life out of trainers.

    Re: Cross Country Spikes

We must run a different type of cross country. Spikes would be no good for us with all the difference surfaces we run on.
    Footpaths
    Bridleways
    Fields (sometimes containing livestock)
    Lanes
    Woodland tracks
    Streams
    Canal towpaths
    Roads (short sections or crossing)

They are along fell lines but not as much climbing, usually about 4 to 6 miles with 500 to 800 of ascent on average.

Which league is this? It sounds far more appealling than 3 laps of the footie pitches in Gloucester again!

You can run as a guest for the princely sum of £1.
Its free to all members of the clubs taking part.
If your about on any of the dates Dom just come along and see what you think.

    Re: Cross Country Spikes

I'm getting pissed off with having to buy a new pair of XC spikes every year.

The screw in spike plates seem to get damaged far too easily, even on the slightest stony sections of a course.

Just out of curiosity what's the minimum number of functioning spikes forumites would run with before they think it's time to buy a new pair?

Currently I'm running on 4 out of a possible 6 on one foot and 3 out of 6 on the other.
