Indeed, the FIRST man to go under 3 days; although Mike Hartley did better his time, some years later.

I think that MC's attempts all went N to S.

PS Read his book, Wild Trails to Far Horizons ... truly inspirational.

I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!

Agreed - interesting book from a different time.

Does anyone know the fastest women's time?

Possibly, but I'd have thought that someone in the past with a lighter pack and better weather might have gone faster than Carol.

Perhaps they did, but as there's no real central record repository, who knows?

Maybe this will prompt someone to go and have a shot at it.

What a fascinating read, brilliantly understated

The same issue also has Bill Bird's crossing, and a couple of relays.
'10 years of DPFR ' (on their website) has an account of Brian Harney's, and Geoff Bell's solo (is that still a record?)
I believe Robin Price (CLEM?) has the fastest double crossing?

An old C-le-M clubmate of Robin's told me that Robin excused himself for doing the double by claiming that he had to get back to Edale to pick-up his van!
