    Decent trainers for road runs

Has anybody got any recommendations for good trainers for road running? I haven’t done much training on road in the last year, and consequently just trained in racing flats (which are very comfortable but probably not a good idea for high mileage).

As my flat speed seems to have decreased as a result (only getting the same race times/positions as last year, despite being a lot faster on descents/steep climbs – with the exception being BOFRA races which don’t really have much flat stuff) I am going to try and get in a few more road runs this winter. Also, as I was in Manchester last year I didn’t go on club runs.

I used to like the old Nike Pegasus until they changed the design in around 2005. I found the new version too stiff along the arch and far too cumbersome. I tried Adidas supernova and found the much same with them: consequently confiscating them to a mucking about in shoe within a week.

I have thought about Mizuno or Puma perhaps? Roadrunner, don’t you train in Pumas?

    Any suggestions welcome.

Some very good shoes at the moment. I don't have one compliant about them. Why not try the Complete Tenos IV.

I've always liked New Balance. I wear a neutral shoe - the NB 1060, which has now been superceded by the 1061. Very cushioned and more durable than e.g. nikes. If you ring the factory shop in Shap or the Keswick branch you get them for a lot less (40 quid for 1060s 57 quid for 1061s - I rang them earlier today )
p.s. How's the knee fairing AG?

    Saucony Omni 6.

If they fit you, (they seem to fit a lot of people) they'll be a responsive, supportive, yet well-cushioned, pair of shoes that last and absorb the harshenss of running on pavement.

I've had various shoes and these are the best.

I got a pair of Mizuno Wave Alchemy 7 the other day. For pronators like myself I think they're a good shoe.

I've gone from Pegasus to Supernova to Asics Cumulus, primarily for durability reasons. They all felt much the same when new to me but the newer versions of the Peg and Supernova both "lost it" within a few weeks. The asics feels good, lasts a lot longer and is on sale at Start Fitness at 2 for £90.
I also knock about in a pair of Puma Tenos or Phasis (can't remember which) and they're Ok too but i suspect I'm a shade heavy for them so I prefer slightly bulkier cumulus.
While we're on the subject what about XC xpikes? Any recommendations? To pre-empt the inevitable RR reply I know all about the Ngong (and that it falls apart!)
