    Grasmere Sports

What a great day today at Grasmere. Rob Jebb narrowly missed out from taking Fred Reeves' 1978 record by 10 seconds so Pete Bland's 500 quid was safe for another year. Rob Hope, same as last year, came second, and John Hennegan gained one place on last year's result to finish third. They had cut the course really well through the bracken and the ground was in good condition. Former winner Tommy Sedgwick said that the course was as good as when he and Fred were setting the records in the 70s. I was chuffed to finish 25 seconds faster than last year. There were 102 runners in the seniors race, which was a good turnout.

The forum's Chris frightened the life out of me by passing me on the way up. A great run. Loads of kids there too, but I'll have to let the Jolivers fill you in with the details.

Have to agree with you there Harry - conditions were good today, bracken cut back and relatively dry underfoot. I missed my own PB by 20 secs (it is considerably slower than the record bearing in mind that Mr Jebb had finished before I reached the second flag!) - nevertheless a good day out.

Thorougly enjoyable trot for a first timer, hard to overtake on the downhill though; didn't take that into account on the recce, silly me. Great turnout for the race and cracking reception

You quickly passed him again on the downhill though. Well done on your race!

We had a great day out and the children totally enjoyed their races. Especially Sam who ran the under 14's race even though he only turned 12 6 weeks ago. Also Kerrie (Sophie's friend) was buzzing at the applause and cheering she got at the end. It was her first ever race. She was last.

We seemed to be about £100 lighter by the end of the day though. These shows aren't cheap.

We seem to be £100 lighter by the end of most days.

Good pictures - thanks for the link HHH.

It was a bit of a rum way to find out the results, I had no idea of my time and place until I looked at the last of the pictures!!

Some good thinking by Dave Woodhead there.

Saves a bit of typing I suppose

    Re: Grasmere Sports

    Opening up an old thread...

Went for a look round the course, or rather what I thought was the course; were exactlt does it go? I got to the hole in the wall (not by going up from the fields below) and went right up the fellside to a flag right of the highest summit flag, then up to the summit flag, then to the next slightly lower down flag, followed by a long, grassy contour descent back to the fell gate - is that right?

    Phil
