    It's a two horse race.

Farah's overall achievements of Olympic and World Golds in incredible.

Froome's overall achievements of Tour wins likewise.

Overall, looking at careers, I would say that Farah just edges it.

But in 2017, I'd say Froome has it.

The Tour / Vuelta double is a special achievement.

You only need to look at how Quintana has faired this year. He was 2nd in a sub-standard Giro, especially when the Sky Team were ultimately wiped out as GC contenders. Then he was nowhere in the Tour, despite a fully planned prep for the double-header.

Froome managed the double, probably with a little in hand. He set out to do it. People doubted his form at the Dauphine, but he was still in prep.

He'll not get it, but he should get it.

    My choice would be

    1. Froome
    2. Hamilton
    3. Farah

But I agree with Witton, Froome won't get it.

It's tricky giving awards to cyclists. Hindsight tends to make a mockery of it. But putting my learnt prejudices aside I agree Froome should get it.

The one thing I have against Frome getting the award, is that his achievements are based around team efforts. I know little about the world of cycling but have the impression that Sky have the biggest budget to purchase the strongest backup riders on the tour.
Not to detract too much from his wins, but those tours do strike me as team races for much of them.
I wouldn't vote for formula 1 either, which never seems to be a level playing field (or circuit) for all teams.
Don't roll with a pig in poo. You get covered in poo and the pig likes it.

I understand where you are coming from with Froome and team Sky but his performance at the Vuelta a Espana was astonishing. Every attack he covered and his domestiques struggled to stay with him.

As a child Sports Personality of the Year was one of my tv highlights but I haven't really bothered with it after Zara Phillips won it in 2006.
