    Attempt on 21st July...

...which will be a far cry from Kilian's. Nonetheless my brother and I will be having a stab at this this Saturday 21st July. Leaving at 9am going clockwise. Anyone who would like to join a couple of amateurs for some of the legs would be very welcome. Thanks, Lucian

    Good luck Lucian

To help any prospective helpers what sort of schedule are you following? And have you done much training / supports in the past?

  3. #3
Thank you for your message Derby.

We are following the schedule below. We are fit runners and have done a bit of fell running but none of the BG route specifically. Given this navigation support would be most helpful in the difficult sections and during the night session. We have two friends who will be supporting us with a vehicle.

Any other questions or points of clarification please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Lucian

Lads, do you realize you are going agains all conventions with that start time? Scafell and the more difficult first part of Leg 4 in the dark, is making a difficult task even more challanging.

Skiddaw was bad enough at night in poor conditions. Wouldnt want to be on Lords Rake or scrambling up Kirk Fell in the dark.

Just finding/following that trod up Yewbarrow and then finding that bypass after Yewbarrow will be a challange.

I've had most trouble on the Helvellyn section in the dark and mist. "Follow the obvious path", well it's not chuffin' obvious when it's the same shade of grey as the rest of the fellside!

Sunrise as you get to Great Dodd is nice though

Without me you'd be one place nearer the back

I did a mid-winter Leg 1 and my particular issue in the dark was finding the initial drop from Blencathra onto Doddick Fell. I'm sure it's plain sailing in daylight.

Was worth it though, to be on Blencathra as night fell, with the ice forming on all the rocks, and the lights below.
