It was great when I went in 1999
Ilkley Moor it is then - local and less danger of being attacked by a bear
One more favourite - the NW fells, especially Grisedale Pike

The first glimpse of Suilven (and the other funny lumps in that area) is always preceded by a sense of anticipation, followed by a taking of breath.

Well this is a bit of a free for all with Ilkley Moor being classed as a mountain!!! 🤔
Who is setting the rules here, this thread needs a committee meeting to sort all this out.
Vignemale for me, not because it’s the best, but because the experience was.
Probably the Italian Dolomites, lovely flower meadows lower down and spectacular rocky peaks.
Yosemite is also spectacular and so much wilderness once you get away from the valley itself.

Funny lumps in Scotland: I remember cycling towards Girvan from inland, going round a bend in the road and getting my first sight of the sea, and there in the middle of it was a great lump of rock that looked like an illustration from a child's fairy tale book. On looking at my map, I realised that I wasn't hallucinating: the lump was called Ailsa Craig.
In his lifetime he suffered from unreality, as do so many Englishmen.

I fondly remember walking the Rhinogs, north to south years ago. Lived in Bethesda on the dole and having no money hitched down and walked them over two short winter days. The northern half is a true wilderness. Slept out by the wall above Llyn Hywell and then carried on south to Barmouth. Saw no one in two days. Hitched a lift back in a lorry delivering 5 tons of bibles!
Best mountain views are in the far Northwest of Scotland
Babadag
The Cleveland Hills always look impressive from the lab window. They're also taller than Ilkley Moor!

Even taller than Ilkley Moor? You sure ba-ba?
I’ve not been to the Rhinogs probably this century but am a big fan
