    Spine 2019

Kicks off on sunday. Who we supporting this year?

Jasmine Paris is racing and i'll be hoping she can do it for the fellrunners.

Was talking to Steve Jones of DPFR (very experienced ultra runner) at a race over xmas and he's in. I'll be wishing him luck and he's strong and steady, hope he does it.

I'm sure i saw on the entry list that BillJ of the forum is on it again?

Usual suspects Eoin Keith and Eugene on the start list (didn't see Pavel though).

I say it every year, but i'm always keenly watching with a view to doing it myself in the future, although i expect i'd be throwing my hat in on the summer version.

Very long trail, and some bits of it haven't yet been paved.

Yes. Despite a major motivation to complete last year being that I was certain I was never going to be on the start line again, so I'd better bloody well get to the end, I appear to have found myself on the start list again..

It was a great adventure though. The weather looks like being very different this year, which is a shame in a way - the deep snow made it into that adventure. It took me 3 hours to cover the 4 miles between Windy Gyle and the Cheviot junction last year in the long dark hours of the night, purely due to the snow. Even the winner Pavel was going at the same pace on that section too.

Jasmin has a good chance of the overall win. There are several other very good long distance athletes on the list too though.

I'm sure Jasmine has the sheer speed. But whether she can compete over 4/5/6 days against 'specialists' like Eoin Keith remains to be seen. I certainly hope so.

It was enthralling last year watching Jim Mann tearing it up in the first couple of days!

The nature of it, being a straight race, rather than a stage race, just makes it so interesting.

Good luck to everyone involved. I will be cheering for Shelli Gordon, running to raise money after the death of her partner Tony Holland last year.

Jim is doing the 'fun run' this year - he broke the record for this last year but as he was part of the main race wasn't credited with it, which seems a bit daft.

We need some appropriate songs for her last 100 Miles playlist.

They guy who won the Challenger last year is inside the record pace... and Jim Mann is still about 5 miles ahead of him!
