CL has long been known for his acerbic and corruscating standpoints. I don't have a problem with that. We are all entitled to our beliefs. But I draw the line at personal insults directed at other forum users.
As is noted, Stolly banned himself after shooting from the hip at the personalities of other forumites. With regard to CL, I suspect Brett had no other option. But I would welcome him back with apologies because to lose him would narrow the spectrum of views for debate.
