    Any water on Helvellyn?

Ok, so I've got to run (ish) up Helvellyn on Sunday, from Glenridding - Birkhouse Moor - Swirral Edge - Helvellyn - White Side.

Assuming I haven't drunk too much Ullswater already, are there any drinkable streams on the way? What is the outflow from Red Tarn like?

Red Tarn - slightly second hand, Browns Well off the summit is good but its probably not on the route you need. Most of the inflow to Rattle Beck is good, but depends on how many people have plodged through just before you get there.
    A circular route mostly downhill

I'm sure Chris K's right but I've had no ill effects from scooping up half a pint from the Red Tarn Beck on Saturday's Grisedale Horseshoe, crossing at the very place you're likely to cross.

As you'll know, go for the faster flowing stuff.

    Thanks for these.

As to Red Tarn, how long do those water purifying tablets take to work, about 20 minutes?

Maybe if I swallow a puritab going up Birkhouse Mooor, I can then drink lumpy bits when I find them?

I drank some fast flowing stuff half way up the path from the tarn back in July.

Spent the night throwing up, so I wouldn't advise it.

we walked up there early this year. My mate have a sip and said it tasted a bit odd. just further up was a dea sheep.
He said he thought the odd taste must have been lamb.

I was very dehydrated after cycling the course fairly quickly before running up yesterday. I took a small drink of it and have had no ill effects.

If it's warm you may need plenty to drink.

Last year I'd emptied a bottle and litre+ from my camelbak on the bike, then emptied another good litre on the run... but then I was out for longer than most!!

Saw a few people carrying next to nothing on the run, but the weather was spot on.

    Have a good 'un
