    Building armageddon

    That settles it!
It must have become obvious to readers that macroeconomic meltdowns fascinate me. It is why I think the euro is doomed, and why we need to keep back from that tidal wave as best we can.

But the best indicator of armageddon of all is about to trigger.
The curious can chase this, it is no fantasy - it is uncannily accurate.
    You heard it here first:
Every time the world sets a new record for a tall building, the economy goes into meltdown. Take the petronas towers and the asian crisis, or khalifa building in 2007.

News: after stops and starts, the jeddah tower is due to break the record at the end of this year.

It is uncanny as an indication. It has stood over a century of testing.
Same time as the US bond yield inversion. Batten down the hatches.
    This will get ugly.

It's true. In 1311 Lincoln Cathedral's new spire gave England the tallest building in the world, and only 3 years later we had the ignominy of being defeated by the Scots at Bannockburn.
In his lifetime he suffered from unreality, as do so many Englishmen.

Intriguing correlation. Could this be related to to the cyclical nature of economics, and world's tallest buildings tend to be completed towards the end of an up-cycle?

Or is it just that there are lots of crashes and lots of worlds tallest buildings and if you look for something you can find it? I'd like to see the actual data.

Here's an article on it from a while back BTW: https://www.businessinsider.com/skys...12-1?r=US&IR=T

There may have been lots of crashes but surely there can only be one worlds tallest building!

I think you miss the point. Every time anyone sets a new record, the economy really does crash.
It is something economists have scratched their heads over for a century. The empire state (or empty state, if you wish) building heralded the great depression.

The linkage is that it is always the result of a time of excessive optimism, too much cheap money available, then the long bull run aided by too much cheap money takes a nose dive.
