The older I get the Faster I was
Awful news. Hope he recovers well. Get well soon CF
Sad news but daft circumstances.
Riding down hill on a windy day at over 40mph.
Taking both hands of the handle bars to blow your nose.
Oh dear, front wheel goes and feck who put that wall there?
On only a recon outing too.
Sounds like he has sustained some bad injuries. A shame for him that he is going to miss the Tour de France.
Sad though this is I guess for Team Ineos the focus will now be 100% on Geraint Thomas in the Tour.
What a muppet! - It was only a training ride. He could have stopped.
Who else takes hands off bars at 40mph?
It sounds bad. Open fracture of femur, broken elbow, broken ribs.
So will not a be a serious contender again this year.
And only one man won TDF at age 35, which was back in 1922, so the odds are against his ever winning a fifth tour now: although amongst the old fogies Nibali continues to impress.
Also with the likes of Bernal, Carapaz, etc, the younger generation are coming through. G wont last much longer either.

Did you see that clip just before the accident (on the same training ride) when they had their backup car with them?
Froome takes his hands off to put on another top, the car says "Chris there's no need to take risks", "I'm fine he replies".
That bit him on the bum later.
I'm pleased to see that I'm in good company, having a runny nose while cycling. But when I blow my nose, I only take one hand off the handlebar, and I never do it at 37mph. [OK, let's be honest, I never get to 37mph on my bike.]
More seriously, though, I do sometimes muse over how a moment's lapse of concentration on a bike can lead to disaster. I've had a few narrow escapes before now.
In his lifetime he suffered from unreality, as do so many Englishmen.

Luckily the only times I've come off my bike have been at slow speeds. I remember on the original Tour de Yorkshire sportive a few years back not being able to get out of my cleats in time going up Goose Eye when it was super crowded. The only thing I hurt was my pride.
But I witnessed a friend of mine come off his bike at 35mph on a descent once. His injuries included multiple rib fractures, a punctured lung and he has a permanent reminder with a large lump on his shoulder. Partly as a result of that I am a fairly cautious descender. While on Strava segments I am fairly respectably positioned on the ascents, I tend to be pretty low down the pecking order when it comes to descents.
With the injuries he has sustained I doubt he will win another Grand Tour.
Shame and I hope he makes a full recovery.
