The grouse will soon be having to look out for hen harriers, this has been a record year for chicks on English moors, with 47 recorded, mostly on grouse moors where they are being monitored. Multiple stakeholders working together are begining to have a positive impact, long may it continue.
A pity the positives are not reported more readily and it is only the negatives that make the news.

15 successful breeding pairs is hardly a "success", though, is it? Especially if the birds then get shot by gamekeepers....
The 47 new birds just about replace those which were killed last year (42).

....it's all downhill from here.
The best breeding season since 2006, I call that a success given the low numbers of breeding birds, the implication that they will be shot by gamekeepers anyway is more negativity.
If people keep banging on about the negatives - such as implying that they will all be shot again we will never move forward. And for the record that report does not say 42 were killed last year, it says 42 were killed or vanished, which actually is different all from being killed illegally by gamekeepers.
Let us see what the situation is this time next year, some may be killed illegally I am not denying that, but I think we may move forward at last.
Here is the more positive report from the Independant from 5 days ago, why not link to this one instead of the negative one from 6 months ago? https://www.independent.co.uk/enviro...-a9051551.html
Don't roll with a pig in poo. You get covered in poo and the pig likes it.
