    Not plantar fasciitis?

    The rather painful injury that had me dropping out of the Four Fans race seemed to fit all the usual descriptions of plantar fasciitis. But one of the most well-known aspects of PF is that it takes months or years to recover from. Yet today (just 19 days after the original injury), I was able to go out for a very short run (12 minutes) with barely any discomfort, either during or after the run.

    I also saw a physio 8 days ago, which was a slightly odd experience. She did examine my foot, but spent far more time going over the entire leg looking for problems that might be causing the pain in my foot. She only mentioned the plantar fascia once in the 45 minutes, and spent more time working on my stiff quads than anywhere else! She has also referred me to a podiatrist specialising in biomechanical problems, although that appointment is not for another 3 weeks.

    So it's still a bit of a mystery what my injury was. Has anyone else had anything similar?

    I had a brief experience of what I thought was PF (although I might have mis-diagnosed it)..... rather than any great pain, it felt like a stabbing and sharp sensation on the underside of my foot. Some tennis ball rolling got rid of it within a couple of weeks, never to be seen again.

    I do believe that issues in the calves can cause problems elsewhere.... my chiropodist believed that the issues I had with my Achilles were caused by tight (remedied by more stretching) and short (nothing I can do about the length) calves.

    Yes, I've been doing the tennis ball rolling. And I certainly do have issues with my calves, so I need to be more diligent in doing the heel drops, etc.

    Sorry to add more confusion than answers, but I’ve been bothered with a sole-of-the-foot problem all year. More ‘discomfort’ than pain, but it does start to hurt a bit if I overdo things.

    GP said he couldn’t rule out "weird" plantar fascitis, as in I’ve managed to injure my PF, but not in the conventional way that everyone else does.

    Got a physio referral. He spent a lot of time looking at my legs, quads, calves etc, and he’s pretty satisfied there’s nowt ‘wrong’ there, but I might have some sort of gait issue causing me to really welly one particular area of my sole, causing swelling and discomfort. I now have a referral to biomechanics.

    I’ll update if I actually get any helpful answers!

    Also got some sore heel, worst in the morning, but not as bad as some I know who've had it, goes shortly after commencing running and the adrenaline of a race sorts it out no problem./ Think it's probably stemming from hammy/glute so working on that. Otherwise it'll hopefully just be one of those things that disappears without you really noticing (it is always much worse after track/road running)

    Foot pain started at base middle toe on left foot two years ago now. Just like I'd stood on a pebble and bruised it. Usually that disappears quickly, but it has stuck with me since and I have goo days and bad days.
    I particularly feel it when standing in bear feet on a hard floor.

    Since then, I've started to get sore heels. Not in the achilles, but in the ball of the heel. Usually the left is worst and it is normally worse in mornings when I get up.
    I can run - it disappears after a mile or so, but gets me when I stop.

    Not sure if the two issues are linked.

    Not sure what it is, but I've been wearing some expensive mule style house slippers since around Jan 2017 and I found they are comfortable and a real relief when I pop them on after a run, but when I switch to other footwear from the mules, I feel initially quite uncomfortable.

    So I'm wondering if the change of gait around the home from wearing mules, perhaps for 80% of my time as I work from home, has affected my feet.

    So I've ditched them two weeks ago and now wear Salomons in the house

    I've found a slight improvement in my feet, but I'm still running like a pudding

    Anthony, you may have had a plantar muscle injury. Or even a form of compartment pain. Either of those would cause similar symptoms but resolve quickly. Unlike PF which dos not.

    Had my appointment with the podiatrist today. he confirmed what Wheeze suggested, that it was probably a plantar muscle injury. He gave me some temporary insoles to improve my gait, and I'm going back in two weeks.

    Witton Park, you might benefit from seeing a podiatrist about your various problems?
