    Wrekin Wrecker : difficulty ?

hust wondering if anyone had done this race and could say ( approx ) how tough it is please, with regard to footing etc ?

I can see it's a A catorgory race, but I understand (? ) that's just based on height gain, and from my limited knowledge the terrain on the wrekin isn't as difficult say compared to cragginess and mud of last w'end Passing Clouds which is a B ??

I'm asking as i'm doing the Roaches 15 mile fell the next weekend which is a counter in my club championship and I want to ensure I'm fresh for that ?

    Cheers for any replies

Well the Wrekin has snow on it at the moment! Yes, it's not too rocky but is steep & some of the paths around the bottom are pretty muddy in places. I think the route goes over the summit 2 or 3 times by different routes, linking them up by the bottom path?

Thanks for the info, deserveably tough\eh? Oh well...

.....still too irresistable a challenge to pass up the experience of clambering up such a notable landmark

Three if I remember correctly from the one time I ran it.

Did the Wrecker a couple of years ago. I would agree there are some steep bits and several testing ascents. There aren't any craggy bits from what I can remember. Just a bit uneven on the down hills with loads of leaves...

The above posts are all correct. It's not called the Wrecker for nothing but there's no technical craggy ground. There are a couple of steep descents on rough ground covered in leaves though. And the race does 2.5 x trips to the summit Oh, and it's organised by a great club

If you've not spent much time on the Wrekin, it's a race well worth doing and you'll thoroughly enjoy it. In my case, it's my "backyard" for training and therefore I'll be heading off elsewhere to enjoy somewhere different for once!

Edit: As far as navigation goes, you'll most probably be able to follow others, plus difficult parts are taped, plus there are several marshalls at key points.

i stayed at a hotel that is attached to the football ground for a wedding this summer and despite a blinding hangover and a late night ran to the top of the wrekin and back from the hotel and was first for breakfast and the most busheytailed!! a great cure for a hangover!!!

A fair old trek to the top of the Wrekin & back from the Whitehouse mate, hope the brekky was half decent (the food has a poor repuatation, you're better off trying AFC Telford's pies ) But then if you've got a hangover I suppose you need something to soak it up.........
Mr1470 - I didnt think your club was organising the race this year?
I might have a run up there, its waaay cheaper and much better than this Hellrunner thing. And I can see my house from the top, (well I could If I could get the Council to cut down the trees at the end of my road )
