    Night cramp

I keep waking up in the middle of the night with excruciating cramp in my right calf. Next morning, I'm left with after pains which can take most of the day to walk off. No idea what is causing it. I eat well and am usually hydrated. Cycle twice a day and/or run 2-3 days a week.
A quick Google suggests lack of exercise as a possible cause..... 🙄

I get this often on consecutive nights and then have weeks without further trouble. No idea as to the cause although I do far less exercise than I used to. I sometimes get cramp I my shin which frustratingly seems much harder to shake off by stretching the muscle.
Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run

I also used to suffer terribly with this in my late teens, in both calves at the same time, feeling awfully knotted and unable to move.

However it didn’t ever leave me with any issues the following day.

I cover between 96-130 Km a week and do several thousand metres of ascent, and I find that a mug of Bovril late evening keeps any cramps at bay.

    Works for me

Seems to be quite a common complaint though I'd not come across it before. I mentioned it to a couple of colleagues at work and they also suffer from it from time to time.

It is said that a decent stretch of the relevant muscles just before getting into bed is a good way of preventing nocturnal cramp.
