    14.10 for each 5K - I never managed sub 20, though I did do just under 40 for a couple of 10Ks - those were the days. And 60 secs for what was probably 440 yds at school.

    Of course it isn't a new IAAF record; doubt it was ever intended to be an attempt. It's an insight into what it currently takes to get below 2 hours for the marathon distance, i.e. very special and controlled conditions. Still an amazing athletic performance though. What it does tell us is that when someone finally gets under 2 hours in normal race conditions that are valid for setting a world record, it will be an outstanding achievement.

    Kipchoge's official record marathon time is already not that far off 2 hours and the record time has come down quite significantly in the last seven years. So I suspect an official sub 2 hour marathon is probably not too many years away.
