    Course maps: https://nottsac.co.uk/latest-news/na...aps-site-plan/
Appear to be the same as 2017 (for the senior men at least)
A muddy heavy National and I've got beggar all fitness to go and use, damn!

Thanks Nic. Saves me buying a program for £3. Just need to save up for the parking now!

Could be an interesting day... numerous dire warnings of potential car-park chaos due to the weather, and lord knows what the course will be like!

As always a great day at the Nationals.

Certainly was tough conditions.... I wasn’t at the Alton Towers Race a few years back, which seems to have gone down in legend at our club... but today was the toughest XC course I’ve experienced.... such a mixture of fast running and then endless bogginess which made the Lee Mill Relay look like the turf at Wembley Stadium.

Personally I felt I’d ran fairly well, and certainly made plenty of places up in the 2nd half of the race, so was slightly downbeat to only finish 1079th. Whilst it was a pb of over 150 places (not surprising considering it was the first National I’d done whilst vaguely fit and uninjured), I had been hoping to get in the top 1000, but would have needed to pull out another 1min20 to have made my target. Doesn't sound much, but at the time the thought of speeding up to that extent was impossible...

Had a great battle with an old schoolmate from another local club... after swapping places a couple of times in the first couple of laps, I put a big shift in on the middle third, turned round expecting him to be out of sight, and he was only 20 yards behind, eyes fixed on me! I knew it would go to the wire, and luckily held him off by 4 seconds in a desperate dash for the line.

Well done ba-ba and GazB who finished considerably higher than me!

Team wise, we lost our fastest guy with an injury in the warmup, but managed a pleasing 29th team. 4th Midlands team behind the heavyweights of Bristol&West, Birchfield Harriers and Notts AC.

In the ladies, Aldershot took the team prize, followed by Leeds, then Highgate Harriers.... I noticed a couple of fellrunning names high up... Bronwen Owen and a lady from Holmfirth Harriers...

In the men’s, Tonbridge regained the title, with Bristol&West and Leeds 2nd ad 3rd, not sure in which order. I noticed Matlock had some fellrunning names high up.... Billy Cartwright, Harry Holmes, Joshua Jardine. Keswick who have a strong XC squad, based on their Fell team, were absent, although I think most of them in action at High Cup Nick instead.

Shout to all the Fell teams I spotted today.... Kendal AC, Clayton Le Moors, Bingley Harriers, Blackburn Harriers (2nd lady), Altrincham, Holmfirth Harriers, Springfield Striders, Anthony Kay’s very own Thames Valley, and Race The Sweeper’s Buxton...

Good summary Travs. First National XC I've done and loved it. Felt like going into battle at the start when a big cheer went up as we started to wade through the standing water. Not sure "muddy" and "heavy" do the conditions justice!

That’s the ones, they had a great day, 12th team! With Warwickshire’s own Pat Roddy, and ex-Godiva “Ammo” Attimai Ben-Israel.... a very rapid young guy who I assume must be at Uni down that way...

I bloody love the National, even if I'm about 150 places down on my best.

The stand-out current fell runner performance was Dan Haworth's (Matlock) monster run to 19th place. I believe he's in Marathon training. Caroline Lambert (Ribble Valley) was 26th in the Women's race.

    Selected Men's results (top 600):
    Billy Cartwright (Matlock) 80th
    Harry Holmes (Matlock) 109th
    Aiden Smith (Dark Peak) 120th
    Duncan Birtwhistle (Mercia) 144th
    Murray Strain (HBT) 147th
    Duncan Coombs (Dark Peak/HBT) 197th
    Joe Law (Dark Peak/Holmfirth) 266th
    Pete Hodges (Dark PEak) 364th
    Nic Barber (Helm Hill) 386th
    Luke Beresford (Ripley) 570th
    Adam Stirk (Wharfedale) 574

    Selected Women's results (top 300):
Bronwen Owen 3rd (ex-North York Moors racer)
Georgia Malir 22nd (sometime mountain runner)
    Caroline Lambert 26th (Ribble Valley)
    Katie Walshaw 32nd (Holmfirth)
    Ellen Downs 42nd (Dark Peak)
    Nicholas Jackson 53rd (Ribble Valley)
    Helen Berry 92nd (Holmfirth)
    Chloe Haines 244 (Dark Peak)
    Ellie Crownshaw 289 (Dark Peak)

Great running from you ba-ba…. if that was a below-par run...!!

Can add into the men's list Matt Battley (Coventry Godiva Harriers) 137th....

New Zealand representative at World Mountain Running Trophy
Ran the OMM Elite past two years
Approx 30th at English Champs race last year Stretton Hills
9th fastest time at last November's Lee Mill Relay
Doing a few fell races and mountain trials this year

Might head over to watch the inter-counties at Loughborough on Saturday if nothing else comes up. Will be interesting to watch a real high-level race without any bias or club loyalties.
