I'd recommend Ipx5 or more. I have a Silva trail runner which is waterproof, great in full beam for trails and fell running though you would probably only need half beam for less technical paths. Only downside for some is the battery life. I get 2.5-3 hours of full beam but that's usually plenty for me. Rrp is £60 but you can pick them up for less than £40.

LED Lenser for me... top quality and I’ve taken them out on the hills in some utterly filthy weather with no issues....

    I currently have this...

10 hours at 600 lumens, which is more than enough. Also bought a spare Battery which effectively then gives me 20hrs at 600 lumens.

Only IPX4, but as stated above I’ve had no issues on some awful nights.

LED Lenser’s after-service is very good too.

I have the 7.2 and that's been very good for about 4 years, including some runs in nasty weather.

Do you know if the torch can be used with out the top head strap as the wife would like to use it but wears a bobble.

    Just to say:

when I started doing night fell races, ie running as fast as one can, 10 years ago, I looked at the headtorch that eg Ian Holmes was wearing as he passed me and it was a Hope. So I bought one.

I still have it (after 9 years I changed the rechargeable battery) and it is still as good as new. It has never failed.

Hope are not cheap, but neither are Bentleys, and they are built to the same high standard, which is for crazy MTB riders hoping to defy death on mind numbing descents.

It is very light, so yes.

Anyone used the new Petzl Swift Rl head torch? And how long did the battery last on mid power?
