Cholesterol - any doctor here ?

    Any doctor here?

I'm 46 and fit (well, kind of) and have always followed a healthy diet.
Just checked the cholesterol values at work and I was surprised they are slightly off.

Cholesterin in Serum: 242 (optimum: less than 200)
HDL-Cholesterin in Serum: 77 (optimum: more than 60)
LDL Cholesterin (direktmeas.): 161 (optimum: less than 130)
Tryglicerdide in Serum: 208 (optimum: less than 150)
Glucose in Plasma: 104 (optimum: 74-99)

What to make of these values?
    Thanks,

    Alberto

As you say, just slightly off.
    1. Was the sample taken fasting? If no, repeat after fast. If normal, go no further. If yes....
    2. Check your diet for high cholesterol intake.
    3. Try 3 months of a cholesterol reducing diet and repeat test.
    4. Do/did your parents or siblings have high cholesterol?

If diet does not reduce levels and/or there is a family history of high cholesterol, then start Statins.

    Thanks.
No fasting. In fact, sample taken 10 min after lunch and espresso. I told this to the Dr and she reply it was not an issue.
By the way, Wheeze, are you an health professional?
    Cheers,

We've had enough of experts. I once knew someone who lived to 97 and he ate a lot of prawns.

But seriously, check this out: https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses...gh-cholesterol. I guess you have already.

And you also asked if fasting makes any difference: https://www.statnews.com/2016/04/29/...terol-testing/

I am not a medical doctor.

But the real secret to long life, is two raw eggs a day.
So said an Italian lady living to 117.

Is it still true that amongst non smoking , non drinking , non cholesterol taking , non dusty air imbibing , non McDonald ( or Burger King) eating , non salt eating , none coke ( or sugar drink) drinking, none chip eating, healthy lifestylers , the death rate is still 100 percent? Selling funerals is still a reliable market!

I'm aware of the guidelines. The point of trying a fasted sample is that the values are only slightly off so should be rechecked in a different state. Its worth being sure before stating a drug.
I am a quack. I have been on statins for 18 months. Perfect cholesterol control. No side effects.
