10.19 miles, 3,424 feet, 3 hours 21 minutes: Rothay Bridge - Roman Ruins - Borrans Park - Stagshaw Gardens - Champion Tree Trail - Blue Hill Road - Wansfell Pike from the west - along the ridge to the true top - down to the top of Nanny Lane - back up to the Pike from the east - Ambleside. Overcast, with the cloud base at about 2,500 feet; at times the sun was shining weakly through the clouds. A few minutes of drizzle. A moderate wind from the south. Terrain still saturated and slippery. Quite a few walkers on the main paths; no other runners seen.

8.68 miles, 2,458 feet, 2 hours 37 minutes: Loughrigg trails, ascending via Fishgarths Wood, and then going up the steps opposite Loughrigg Tarn, and down and back up the race route to the road at High Close. Blue sky and clouds, with the cloud base at about 2,500 feet. A blustery wind from the west. No rain. Terrain saturated and slippery. Not many walkers about; 2 fellow runners seen.

The race route is becoming very slippery, but it is still a nicer way down than either set of steps.

10.37 miles, 2,315 feet, 3 hours 20 minutes: Rothay Bridge - Roman Ruins - Borrans Park - Waterhead steps - Blue Hill Wood - Blue Hill Road - Wansfell Pike from the west - Ambleside. Overcast, with the cloud base at about 2,500 feet, intermittent drizzle/light rain, a strong wind from the south. Terrain saturated and slippery. Very few walkers about; 4 other runners seen.

In Borrans Park I did 6 different drills - each 4 x 30 seconds; then 3 miles of short intervals, each one about 150 metres; recovery: until my breathing had started to settle.

12 miles, 3,433 feet, 3 hours 57 minutes: Rothay/Miller/Low Sweden Bridges - Low/High Pikes - High Bakestones - Scandale - Red Screes - Roundhill Farm - Ambleside. Blue sky and clouds; no distinct cloud base: some tops visible, others hidden in clouds. Intermittent drizzle/light rain, and a couple of brief wintry showers. No significant wind. Terrain saturated/streaming/very slippery. I only saw 5 walkers on the fells; no other runners seen.

I went up the rock step on the ascent - it was very wet and slippery - I would not go down it in these conditions.

6.05 miles, 2,526 feet, 2 hours 16 minutes: NDG - Stickle Tarn - North Rake - Thunacar Knott - High Raise - Sergeant Man - Stickle Tarn - NDG. Sunshine and high clouds, a moderate breeze from the west, a few minutes of drizzle. Terrain saturated and slippery. Not many walkers about. This was an AAC run - the Tuesday/Thursday 10 am group - there were 12 of us - I split from them at Thunacar knott as they were going to start heading down. I was at the back of the group, but not that far behind the leaders.

I wore my other new pair of 260s for the first time today - it is nice to have new studs in these conditions.

8.18 miles, 708 feet, 1 hour 34 minutes: minor roads of Ambleside/Borrans Park, then along Bog Lane to Skelwith Fold and back, so all on tarmac. Overcast, with the cloud base at about 500 feet. Constant drizzle/light rain. No wind at this level. Ground wet and streaming. Grip good apart from on Brathay Church steps - I took shelter in the doorway to take some photos - the steps were lethal. There was a sign warning that the grass was slippery when wet, but the steps were not mentioned. A few walkers about; 2 fellow runners seen.

1260 steps up to the Tiger Cave Temple, Krabi, Thailand. This includes some of the steepest steps I have ever encountered. Depending on which website you look at, the climb is either 270m, 278m or 309m. Unfortunately I didn't have a watch, so no idea of the time it took me; but I just got into a steady rhythm and kept going (just a brisk walk, no attempt at running).
In his lifetime he suffered from unreality, as do so many Englishmen.

The longest virtually continuous steps I can think of locally are those up to Wansfell Pike - 302 metres/990 feet of up in 0.6 of a mile - I have not tried to count the steps. I used to try running short sections but gave that up as a huge trip risk some time ago. Coming down them when wet is something to be avoided.

4.49 miles, 1,556 feet, 1 hour 25 minutes: Elterwater Common - Silver How - Swinescar Pike - Elterwater Common. Overcast, with the cloud base at about 500 feet. A moderate breeze from the south east. Continuous drizzle/light rain. Terrain saturated/streaming and very slippery. No walkers seen on the fells. This was an AAC run - there were about a dozen of us.

I normally put my camera in its case, then in a plastic bag, and then in my bumbag. Today at Swninescar Pike I got it out and took a couple of very misty photos, then could not find the case - I normally tuck it under my arm, but occasionally I forget it is there and drop it - today I assumed I had dropped it and it had blown away, but when I got home there it was on the coffee table.

9.03 miles, 1,277 feet, 1 hour 55 minutes: Rothay Bridge - Miller Bridge - Pelter Bridge - Rydal - Rydal Park - Ambleside. Overcast, with the cloud base at about 1,000 feet, misty below that. Constant drizzle/light rain. Many of the minor roads and large stretches of the track through Rydal Park were under several inches of water. Apart from Rydal Park this was on tarmac. Not many walkers about; 2 other runners seen.

I did 8 hills, but not THE 8 AAC hills.
