    Derbyshire folks

Some are not covering themselves in glory.

Derbyshire Police have repeatedly told people to stay at home and not to travel for exercise and earlier in the week used a drone to capture people walking in the Peak District.

A force spokesperson said: “These are all lovely things to do but not in the middle of a pandemic that is literally costing people their lives.”

“Our actions and the government’s advice are there to keep you and others safe and ensure that our NHS is able to cope in order to save as many lives as possible

Is it the locals or others travelling in?

One of the problems is the differing definitions of the word local. I live in the Peak District so obviously every activity I do locally is in the Peak District!

For some people their local shop is 200yds away, mine is 2 miles away and for some it will be 10 or more miles away. One size does not fit all so common sense is required but unfortunately there is lack of it around in some quarters.
Derbyshire seems to be hitting the headlines at the moment but I am sure that other shires will have their own ready supply of halfwits straining at the leash of notoriety!

And another problem is the police have no legal basis to do it at present.
They are making it up as they go along.

The police should seek more clarity in proper local byelaw or statute and enforce what is actually there!
    Like groups of people congregating,.

I live 5 miles from the nearest shops that have some more difficult supplies, the nearest shop does not have all.
So I agree there is no one size fits all.

I see a judge has declared the bobbies a touch heavy handed.

    Is he right Llani?

On the spot or what Stagger. For what its worth I don't think he is.

I take with a pinch of salt whatever retired public figures say.

Prior to their retirement they are usually as quiet as a church mouse, keeping their heads down and not rocking the boat waiting for the gold plated pension to kick in. Then as soon as they retire they open fire at anyone they fancy is fair game.

Too late Ex Judge Lord Sumption. Put a sock in it.

Looking at the two articles, clearly the family having a party and similar group gatherings in house, or elsewhere are what the police should be targeting.

The people on a quiet piece of moor should be left alone.

To be fair to the Lord, he was an invited guest on Radio 4 to discuss the policing issue with a Met Police Commander.

Sumption criticised some of the heavy handed behaviour by policemen.

The Commander's response? Apparently Lord Sumption shows how out of touch he is by excluding around 30% of police officers by using the term "policemen".

    You see the problem?
