As an old duffer I much prefer metric.

Curious fact: the inch (and foot and pound weight and others) are defined in the UK by their metric values. Somewhat surprisingly the same is true, for the inch at least, in the USA. Also, historically the yard (and therefore the foot and the inch) have shrunk over the centuries, the yard used to be about 10mm longer. The reason was that the authorities kept changing the standard definition.

Prior to Carol Morgan's 24hr record last year I was asked about the criteria for valid peaks. Really hard to verify things when the criteria are in feet and the maps are metric. Will have to consider metricating the criteria.

Yes but by Jove we built an entire mighty empire on the back of such British imperial (the clues in the word) units exceptionalism! It also meant that German spies and other ne'er-do-wells and low down chisellers were readily caught out as soon as the step foot into any British shop or pub!

Any child of the 50s or 60s could and probably still can do mental arithmetic, which is very handy for many things, not least navigating. You needed to be able to do it to count your pocket money if nothing else. Later generations brought up under the metric system seem to find this practically impossible.

Finally had to unfollow the Facebook group. Cheesed off receiving countless notifications of absolute crap. Today's special: which is better, Mudclaw or Mudclaw Classic?

It's only ever useful for race results and photos, which makes it pretty darn useless at the moment.

Perhaps organisers could be encouraged to post results on here and perhaps photos etc would follow.

There are useful bits of info and news on there... race entries, results, photos... but just lost in a sea of absolute cobblers.

Will probably re-follow it once races start returning somewhere near to normal.

The same questions are being discussed on this forum under equipment.
    One step beyond.
