Thread: How many kcal do you burn?

How many kcal do you burn?

During my usual cycling session of hill reps a woman walker curious of me repeating up-and-down asks
"How many kcal do you burn doing this?"

I didn't like because it put the emphasis on an aspect that I'd like receive less attention.
Sport should be for the pleasure of the effort outdoor. Not about "burning kcal".

Like going to the gym. Many people do it to LOOK fit. Not to be fit.
I find it kind of sad.

    Well, there are worse things...

    Haven't a clue!

What I do know, is that if I shovel more in than I burn off my trousers get tighter!

My HR monitor consistently tells me that I burn about 100 calories per mile of running. That's a depressingly small pies per mile ratio.

People don't understand exercise. They think you're only an athlete if you enter the olympics, they don't understand that being an athlete is a state of mind and a level of commitment. It gives rise to people assuming that mere mortals exercise to lose weight alone, and not improve their age grading.

The cretins i work with don't even understand basic flexibility and stretching. I like to lean into a nice double quad stretch when i fill my water at the drinks machine, which is unanimously met with cries such as, "why the f**k are you praying to the coffee machine again?"

The polite athlete always smiles and waves, or offers a neutral response acceptable to the average Apple TV customer such as, "it's been a tiring weekend of e-smoking, drinking and boxset-bingeing bruv, just checking my socials and junk".

I think there are loads of ways of measuring sports activities. Many would equally say doing hill reps is all a bit hamster in a running wheel for instance

At any given time I might measure my activities in any or all of the following ways:

Heart rate - max and average
    Distance
    Ascent
    Average pace
    Grade adjusted pace
    Strava segment times
    Route pbs
    Calories burnt
    VO2 max
    Wildlife and wonders seen
    Weather experienced
    Epicness
    Food eaten/coffee shops visited
How much the dogs enjoyed it
    Photos taken
    Fun had

    They all count
