That must be weird: spending months planning a big multi-day record like this and then hearing there's someone setting off either just ahead of you, or just behind.

Did they toss a coin to see who went first? Did they have a chat about it before hand?

I gather it came as a surprise to both of them
Adds a bit of extra interest to the dot watching

Don't imagine it's massively helpful to either of them, though I guess a bit of friendly rivalry might spur them on! Their routes are pretty much identical for the first few days so it's hard to imagine they won't see/pass one another. Their paces are very even at the moment. Tom took about 9h30m to get to Kirk Fell and James about 9h50m, but it took James 20m longer to get to High Rigg as he took in Latrigg first.

It could also get a bit confusing for the supports teams!

Reminds me of Scott and Amundsen.

Or was that before your time Noel?

A little perhaps. It's so hard to keep track when you reach my age.

Some interesting splits between the two of them.
I spent today playing in the hills above Coniston and know first hand the underfoot conditions they must be encountering, still the dot`s seem to say they are having fun.

    Good luck to them both

Two very different routes from Cold Pike to Hard Knott.

Some tough conditions overnight I think. Set to improve through the day before turning again through the night. Looks like Tom took a few hours rest at Cockley Beck. They're now both very close together on the Coniston ridge. Cracking stuff.

Looks like Tom has had a proper tweak of the routes after his earlier completion, whilst James is sticking more to what Steve/Paul/Sabs have done.
