Just noticed this thread. I was planning on going across for this one on Sunday and found Yiannis' site with the route map on

While I was googling for other info I came across the B17 crash story and the memorial on the summit so I will keep an eye out for that on the day.

No country for old men.
Alf, I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed. I've been course sweeper for Yiannis since this race was inaugurated. On a clear day ( sadly the forecast appears to be denying us the privilege for this year ) the view from the summit / memorial is breathtaking in all directions but particularly to the S, towards Rhobell Fawr - well worth losing a few seconds and the odd place.
Just a quick, last minute heads up for Yiannis' Arenig Fawr Race from Arenig hamlet, approx 7 miles W of Bala towards Trawsfynydd; 3rd October - finer details in the FRA calendar. A 'proper', back to basics traditional grass roots fell race in deepest Welsh Wales; not a 'tourist honey-pot'!
Also see the thread in the 'Recce' section. Well worth travelling for. Arrive in good time to allow the 1 mile walk from parking/registration to the start.

Luke Appleyard (Wharfedale)- quick on the dissent
What i meant to say was does anyone else have any glowing testimony, as this race would be a pain in the knee for me.

Yes :-)
Like many of the Welsh races it's not as well attended as it's lake land equivelant. Hense I guess WDonkey's reference to "grass routes". It feels like races might have felt along time ago. Great route, scenery, company, organisation and one of the best selection of soups and cakes after the race you will find anywhere. Front page of my blog was taken by Al Tye from the top of Arenig race last year. If my back holds up for the next few days I'll be there.
