"...as dry as the Atacama desert".
The tilling of soil (for growing vegetables) kills more animal organisms than killing animals for food.
Eating locally sourced meat versus the environmental consequences of a vegan diet if we consider the air miles and amount of plastic etc in a supermarket shop.
2 points worthy of discussion if we are looking at veganism.
BTW I do eat meat but am mainly vegetarian. I advocate a seasonal locally produced diet whatever that may provide.

Minimum individual unnecessary deaths for maximum food production suggests we should probably all be eating whales and elephants.
Lol.
This highlights how we make judgements based on a range of factors. Similarity to humans is clearly one - most of us who eat pork wouldn't eat chimp. And intelligence seems to be another. Tuna is OK, but not dolphins, or even octopuses (I've heard some people avoid them too).
And obviously rarity - we don't want to contribute to an extinction event.
Yep. It's all emotion.
So in Australia they eat (I have eaten from) crocodile, ostrich, emu, kangaroo - because most meat looks the same as a steak or in a stew - but not koala bear. Aaaah.
But if I were starving, say, on a life boat in an ocean I, along with many predecessors, would willingly eat you to stay alive.
I suppose you wouldn't find many vegans on said lifeboat because they will have been eaten first.
