    Downhill Technique

Last night I discovered a technique for coming down the hill as I was coming off Pendle.

What I did was I jumped for an outcrop, landed two footed and let my momentum carry me into a roll. I then took a couple of steps forward, lost my balance and rolled again.

It was completely unintentional, and caused some scoffing from the guys behind me, but not only was it easier on my ankles, it was much quicker than when relying on the more traditional 'running' approach.

Anyone else tried this one? Is this why I can never catch up with the really fast people because they've been keeping this technique to themselves?

    Your thoughts please...

Whatever gets you down the hill faster and doesn't wreck your ankles is the correct way in my opinion

    Re: Downhill Technique

In last year's Buckden Pike race (which is fairly steep) there was a guy who applied the technique of jumping forward and landing on two feet but facing the slope (if that makes sense), then skidding down the slope as far as he could while steadying himself using his hands on the grass. This worked very well and was a lot quicker than I could 'run' down the hill - although I'm not the world's best descender. Anyone else use this technique?

i found an inadvertant head over heels whilst descending on the last dropoff of the brough law race both sitimulating and entertaining to the watching spectators!

And I thought I was doing it wrong falling over all the time
thanks for the vote of confidence. I shall practice the forward rolls now instead of trying to avoid doing them

Yup, that's kind of what I looked like. What do you reckon? Parkour for 2012 Olympics? Be cracking round the streets and estates of East London. Best of all it won't cost a fortune in redevelopment!
