I don't like this, I don't want to discuss this, I want to discuss something else.

So why not discuss something else then?

It is what always used to happen.

By the way, I think your greatest service was when you stood down
Thank you Graham and it was largely due to many of your forum posts defending the FRA following the Brian Belfield inquest which prompted me to attend the 2015 AGM to offer my support. Of course I came away as Membership Secretary and next year will be my 10th and final year as a member of the Executive Committee. It amuses me how a small number of folk who are not even members of the FRA think it is clever to be spiteful to those who have invested a great deal of time and energy into the administration and management of the sport. The vast majority are hugely grateful as am I - thank you.

With regard to the future of this Forum, I have just completed an analysis of the posts during the last six months of which there have been 1810 of which 1229 were non-fell running and Down the Pub, leaving 581 in the fell running section. 145 of those or 8% of the total were in the Races category and regular posters are Llani, Travs, Anthony Kay and Matt Po who seem to be the most active remaining members of the Forum. Of course this is a tiny number of the 9000+ members of the FRA and it is now over two years since we published the fightback article in the Fellrunner and engaged a number of Forumites to try to promote use of the Forum.

At the end of the day it will not be my decision but I suspect that the current Chairman will not be investing any money into what is clearly a declining resource. I would support efforts to retain valuable information regarding races which is still of value to active fell runners.

If this Forum is closed to future posts then maybe we will see the creation of an English Hill Runners Forum in its place :-)

The best way to ensure something fails is to stop investing in it. FRA announcements posted to FB and not to this forum, no logo on forum pages (just looks shoddy), new account creation disabled (for a good reason but no longer term fix). I and I suspect many other don't/won't do Facebook.

And there are those of us who can't use Facebook due to work circumstances.

Yes - apologies to Luke who I realised I had missed. I don't know Mike but I think there are probably half a dozen active fell runners who regularly contribute to the Forum, despite the best efforts of those who offered to help out a couple of years ago.

According to today's quoted states on the login webpage:

"There are currently 842 users online. 4 members and 838 guests

Most users ever online was 5,915, 07-06-2024 at 08:09 AM."

    Nothing but tumbleweed these days...!

Sadly Mike's daily content on his fell running exploits is on a thread in the general chat section so you missed it in your analysis.
I'm also not sure what you consider an active fell runner - sadly a long term injury has prevented more posts on races but I still contribute regularly on these threads regardless.
To actively promote the forum and then essentially fail to follow that through whilst also preventing any new members joining stinks of a hidden agenda. This is not meant as a personal critism - just an observation on our perceptions as forumite which unfortunately also leads me to conclude that the forum will be shutdown in the not too distant future. I will be sad to see it go but I suppose it has had it's day.
The cycling UK forum (with a lot of parallels) still thrives.

Sadly most of these "guests" are bots.

I certainly don't think there is, or has been, a hidden agenda....

However the promotion of the forum, with the magazine article etc.... whilst simultaneously people can't actually join.... is a massive cock-up.

For a handful of people to then use that as a stick to beat the forum with... (same people posting, no new members, unwelcoming, etc), is a bit rich.

The "fightback" article was over two years ago and I believe that Brett removed the "register" link fairly recently so certainly not simultaneous.
