    Brecon Fans Races - 6-7th July 2024

Hi all fell runners outside Wales... somehow I've failed to get the annual Brecon Fans Races into the FRA calendar this year. So here's a wee reminder: Pen y Fan Race Saturday 6th July, and Fan y Big Race Sunday 7th July. Find out more here https://www.breconfans.org.uk/
    Make a weekend of it!

Not if it's too hot. I did Pen y Fan in 2018 in really hot conditions, and achieved the slowest M60 winner's time since 2007. Someone who saw my condition a little while after I had finished emptied his water bottle over me, which was a great act of mercy. I had wimped out of Fan y Big the previous day, partly due to the heat.
In his lifetime he suffered from unreality, as do so many Englishmen.

My clubmate Julie Emmerson is entered for the longer race (Fan y Big?)

I wouldn't put it past her to be challenging for a slot on the "Women Winning Outright" thread in a couple of weeks.

Exciting - will look out for how she does, and there's certainly a new record to be set as we're running it clockwise for the first time. Can you persuade her to do the double!??

Current heatwave looks to be moderating in time for the weekend. Surely someone can have a punt at Anderson's record??

Hi all, a lovely email in from Keith Anderson, holder of the (IMHO) unbeatable record at Pen y Fan:
Hi Crispin thanks for your email and great to hear that the race is going strong thanks you and your teams hard work. I would love to come back and have a run ( probably more of a walk these days) around the course. I am in Italy so not this year but I will try for next year....just need to lose some weight and get fitter....maybe this challenge is what I need!
All the best for race day and good luck to all the runners.
    Thanks
    Keith

    Hope it went well...

Unfortunately my clubmate Julie had covid the weekend before.... she had hoped to still be racing, even if not at 100%, but ultimately didn't feel recovered enough to run.

Hi Petal. Was sorting out my fell running archive at weekend and put all my results into one place. Are you missing any Pen Y Fan results from 80's?
Also found I had kept a copy of the Western Mail when there was a half page pic of the 92 championship race plus article. It's a broadsheet so the pic is huge! As you are now the keeper of the flame, would you be interested in having it for your archive?
