I've just found out that Ros Evans (nee Coats) died on 31 August. She was one of the pioneering women in fell-running, around the time that I started in the sport, in the late 1970's. She was also an orienteer, and a cross-country skier, and was in the habit of winning races in all three sports. I didn't know her personally, but I was used to seeing her at orienteering events and hill races when I was in Scotland.
In his lifetime he suffered from unreality, as do so many Englishmen.

This was published in hard back at £24.99 but the publisher, Sandstone, went into liquidation and sales consequently suffered and no paper back has been published - and I suspect never will be.
I critiqued the manuscript for Steve because I felt the story of the early days of female fellrunning should be told and this book sets out that vital aspect of the history of fell running.
In an interview I recently conducted with Steve he said that Voices From The Hills might be the most important book he has written and I am inclined to agree.

Yes, I do need to retrieve Voices from the Hills from my pile of "books that I am going to read some time in the near future".

I remember her running at some of the fell races in the Lake District in the late 1970s, the early years of women being allowed to run fell races.
